Hoxell has the right passport. It's Swiss, built by someone who has actually run a hotel, and the data protection position held up when I read it properly rather than trusting the marketing. My hesitation is the thin dossier. When I evaluate a vendor I want to hear from other hoteliers who have run it, and here the pool of people willing to talk about it is shallow for a company selling since 2013. That uncertainty is itself part of my rating: with Bookboost I could cross-reference feedback from hundreds of properties across several countries, and with Hoxell I'm leaning much more heavily on my own testing. It could mean happy quiet customers. It could mean a more concentrated customer base than the numbers suggest. I don't know, and neither will you.     Hotelkit was built in Salzburg by a hotelier who got frustrated running his own 50-room property. Bootstrapped, Austrian-owned, 4,000+ hotels. I tested it across my three Austrian properties. The sovereignty story is real. So are the weak spots.

    Flexkeeping does housekeeping operations well and the ROI numbers from large groups are hard to argue with. But the Mews acquisition changes the calculus for anyone not on Mews, and the absence of public API documentation tells me something about where this product is heading.

What is the best alternative to Hoxell?

If you want European jurisdiction with a larger body of evidence behind it, RoomChecking is French and Sweeply is Icelandic, and both are easier to find other hoteliers running. If labour cost analysis is your reason for buying, Optii is the more sophisticated tool, though it's American and it won't publish a price either.

Is there a housekeeping tool with better references than Hoxell?

Most of the category has a broader evidence base, which says less about Hoxell's quality than about its visibility. My advice is the same one I'd give about any thin dossier: ask the vendor for two reference customers at properties like yours, in your country, and speak to them. If that request is difficult to fulfil, that's your answer.

Does an EU alternative offer better data protection than Swiss hosting?

Not necessarily better, and I'd resist the assumption. Swiss data protection under the FADP sits alongside GDPR coverage and is strong. The question I'd actually ask of any alternative is narrower: where is the data hosted, who are the sub-processors, and does any part of the product, particularly anything AI-driven, send data somewhere else. Country of incorporation is the beginning of that enquiry, not the end of it.
