Data residency

Data residency matters because it determines which legal regime governs access to the data. EU-resident data is subject to GDPR; US-resident data is subject to the CLOUD Act, which can compel disclosure to US authorities. Many European hoteliers prefer vendors that store data in the EU and operate under European corporate jurisdiction, on the principle that the rules guest data live under should match the rules the hotel itself operates under.
